ABOUT OUR FOUNDER

The founder of our organization is Architect M Mahiuddin Khan. Born in 2nd October 1944 in a rewound Muslim family in a remote village named Ramrail under Brahmon Baria District, Bangladesh. He is a prominent and prolific Bangladeshi architect known for his innovative, stylish architectural and structural designs.

 

After completion of his secondary and Higher Secondary education from the district level institution he took admission in the department of Architecture in Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET), Dhaka and passed B. Arch in 1968 with distinction. He was the only Gold Medalist in his batch.

After completion of his education he started his business carrier by establishing Sthapati Sangshad Ltd.(SSL) in 1969. He took some of his very close friends with him and started the organization. Within a few years SSL has become one of the best and leading organizations in the field of Architectural Engineering and Management consulting firm in the country.

In the early 1970s, had his big break with the design, supervision and management with work of different Ministries financed by international financing organization like World Bank, ADB, IDA etc. The late ‘70s and early-to-mid-‘80s on Hospital Planning during implementation of IDA Population Project I & II made Joint Venture  with U.K. based Hammet Rowe Norton Group Partnership. While in ‘90s the ever first 24th multi-storied building of Islamic Development Bank (IDB) in the country was designed by him and constructed under his direct supervision.

SSL is an international entity that has more than 500 employees and continues to handle projects with blockbuster budgets in a wide range of nations. Mr. Khan himself has become less of a hands-on draftsman and more of a global manager who aims to create as much time as possible to focus on designing.

Mr. Khan had been the chief architect and team leader of more than 1000s of projects. Besides, he was 2(two) time Member and Vice President of the Executive Committee of Institute of Architects, Bangladesh.

Mr. Khan was the Co-coordinator of publication of “Contemporary Architecture in Bangladesh and “Directory of Architects” of Bangladesh. Above all he was a renowned local organizer of Bangladesh liberation war.

Mr. Khan was diagnosed with kidney problem in his 2018s and received dialysis treatments to fight the disease. He has also suffered a heart attack and other elderly disease that has somewhat curtailed his activity. He passed away on 23rd July 2019.
